farther inlaws motor is loosing water/coolent, I got under the bonnet today checked all hoses radiator etc. When filling the expansion tank coolent starts to run from near the front pullyes are situated up and under the water pump constant drip run until empty . This is when its not running so not under pressure. Gaskets too the pump look ok but is there anywhere else around this area, how does the pump connect too the front block I can see 2 metal pipes presuming flow and return looking like its around there as I said all pipes rad checked running out when topping up not when engines running help would be appreciated before he decides to spend out on a garage:confused:

Yes the pump shaft seals.

Excellent write up there by Saint. Its not a tricky job at all except the viscose fan nut. But if you have followed Saints guide and have made up your locking wrench its quite easy. I did mine this week and the only thing I would add is that the secondary air pipe doesnt have to come right of to give you clearance. If you remove the two M6 (10mm socket) screws from the clamps at each end you can pull the right hand end out and push it down to give enough clearance. Just saves a bit trying to remove the whole assembly.

well all stripped down today defo pump shaft seals gone, the fan nut was a ****, previous owner must of tried too remove and wacked in on the wrong way you can see the chisel marks on the nut so was a pig too get the spanner to fit ended up cutting the shaft and removing the nut after in a vice will let you know how I get on fitting when the parts arrive:)

I had the same thing today (with my 2002 TD6), turns out it was the rubber seal in the EGR thermostat, that is tucked at top of the engine by the back of fan.
