I own a 2002 freelander 1.8 es and it has started to slow down when turning and or when I reverse. Can anyone help with advice

Apologies if this has been asked already but just bought me 1st freelander (love the car)

i was thinking VCU as i was reading

maybe worth doing the VCU test or try removing prop and test drive the car
 
Even a known good vcu will cause this effect, it does depend the degree it is doing it though.
If in doubt don't hang about get it checked!
 
Agreed..remove the prop now and then give it a drive.......sounds like vcu is buggered.
If you carry on driving with it like this you'll end up with a big bill for a new ird and possibly rear diff.
There's nowt wrong in driving them in mondo mode whilst you save for a recon vcu from bell.
