My freelander 1 td4 starts no bother most of the time but every now and again turn the key to start it everything lights up but nothing happens

There's been a few of these lately. You need check the ignition switch, the relay 4 in the engine bay fuse box and the small wire on the starter. These are the common 3. If you still have now joy, let us know.

Thankyou very much for your reply i'll start with checking them just one thing would be able to tell me how to check the ignition switch please

Can anyone tell me if I buy a new ignition barrel with immobiliser ring and ignition switch with keys would it need programed to my vehicle

I've put a new ignition switch on and changed the number 4 relay checked and cleaned the small wire to the starter and it's still doing the same just wondering if it could be the starter motor sticking

Could be the starter solenoid. Look up repairkitsuk Td4 on eBay - they sell a rebuild kit for £10 or so that is dead easy to fit.

Done some more investigation and the problem is back to the small wire on the starter or the starter it self when you hold the small wire on the terminal you get a small blue spark and the car starts no bother at all
