Howdy

I have just had our toothless goat herder of a local mechanic fit a brand new front prop shaft (complete with UJ's)., When he took it out of the packaging, he split the two shafts. I mentioned that they might have been balanced but he said don't worry.
The damn thing now vibrates more than when it still had the knackered one.
What can this be????

Cheers

as youve already thought the prop needs to be aligned properly ,sometimes there are marks to aid ,if rear but both yokes inline like a flat openended spanner front usually out 1 spline if not sure then put inline like rear try it then if no good move round 1spline maybe 2 till right one way from in line then the other, blokes an idiot

Thanks for that.
I love living in a small village in Spain, but the gene pool didn't get a fair spread!
I shall poison his cafe con leche.

yes doesnt quite sound right, but the two inner most yokes attached to actual prop shaft are supposed to be in the same plane with both flange yokes ,one either end been 90 degrees to shaft yokes

no how i did it was shaft yokes are apposing, they were aligned when they vibrated changed to 90 degree apposing and been fine ever since

defender disco the same they share same shaft at front 300 tdi ,fronts are just out of line by a spline maybe two because of high angle
