Whats the best tyre size for my 90, I have chosen Insa Turbo Special Tracks cos they look the business but cant decide on sizes , 235/85 16 or 265/75 16.

Any opinions welcome and picture would be great !!

I'd go for the narrower but taller ones (235/85) because they'll fill your arches a little more and make your defender look that little bit beefier, you'll be geared better for the roads (ie. quieter at higher speed - even though only very very slight noticeable difference!) and they'll still look plenty wide enough from the front and the back. I have 235/75 on my 2.5 N/A 90 and it looks the part from the front, just wish that they were a little bit taller! Oh, and you'll probably find that its a little nippier with slightly narrower tyres

No pics I'm afraid

I needed some new tyres for my 90 so I was looking at the special tracks (235/85). I then noticed Insa Turbo Saharas in 750/16 size. I like 'em tall and skinny for off roading. I bought the Saharas and went to an RTV trial last weekend. (Road Taxed Vehicle.)
19 competitors with at least 3 of them using special tracks. Me and my son beat the lot of them, 1st and 2nd overall. Well impressed. Quieter on the road than the special tracks as well.

Considering the suspension is bog standard, no lifts or spacers or anything like that, it looks quite mean.

i like my 265/75x16 Bfg mt's.I havnt noticed much differnce in fuel consumption and road noise compared with my old 235's.The old 235 are nice and tall though.Look ok from the front but a little skinny on the back

Been doing some ringing around tonight seems like 235/85/16 are rare as Rocking Horse sh*t. Nobody seems to have them!!!!

But what a couple of the tyre specialists have said is there is bugger all difference in height between the 235/85/16 & 265/75/16.
Maybe 1/2 inch thats all!!! With the Insa Turbo Special Tracks that is.

hi all,

since i live in spain i soon came across the insa turbo tyres and fitted them last october. until now i am very pleased with them, although i didnĀ“t do any serious offroading until now with them, they perform very well on and off road, and on wet roads (yes we do have that aswell from time to time). the noise is much less than i expected, although obviously there is more noise than with "normal" tyres.
i did aprox. 5000km with them until now (max speed i did so far 120 km/h), no problems so far, still look very good, no sign of disintegration.....and i like the looks of them too!
i am adding a picture ( i hope it worked, tried it for the first time on here, anyone want some more pics just let me know.
regards from the coast

Its 10% of 235, The tyre size is Width(mm)/Height (as a percentage of the width)/Size of the hole (inches)
the height differenct between the 235 and the 265 is exactly 1mm each side so 2 mm in total! 235 is 198.75 and the 265 is 199.75 mm.
