Gents,

hopefully someone can help me out here before I go down the road
of an auto-electrician.

I hadnt used the Disco for a few days but today I noticed that when I
turned on the ignition I didnt get the chimes for the glow plugs (glow plug symbol on dash still appeared).
Then when driving along I decided to check a few other things and here the list begins.................

Rear wiper wont work.
Front wipers wont work on intermittent (work ok on the other speeds).
Rear heated screen wont work (light on switch not coming on).
Interior light wont switch on/off with doors open/closed (lights when switched to on).
Rear & boot interior lights not coming on either.
No chime for glow plugs or lights left on or key in ignition with door open.
No cruise control although switch lights up.
Rear fog lights not coming on (light on switch not coming on)

I've checked the fuses & none have blown............
Mirrors still work as do lights, clock, radio, windows.

Any ideas guys............

Hi again,

update....when driving home this morning my intermittent wiper went on
once only and then the seatbelt warning light came on and stays on as
long as the ignition is on i.e. even when driving......?????

any ideas.................

isnt the seatbelt light the pretensioner warning light? indicating a fault with your airbag system?

If the fuses are OK, then start checking relays, swap them round and see if ones faulty.

Hi,

thanks for the replies so far.I'll swop relays over when I get
a chance to spend some time on it (just moved house so very
busy) .She still drives ok thanks god & lights, heater, etc still working so
at this point its more of an inconvenience,

Cheers.............

Hi,

FYI, didnt use car at all yesterday.Went to work this morning & it appears
that everything is back to normal. We did have a heavy downpour a couple of days ago so possibly water in the electrics........

Cheers.

From "chimes for the glow plugs" I guess is a Td5.
You said you checked the fuses but this time I can't guess if you checked the engine compartment fuses as well or not. There's also a relay there for many aux circuits. Or maybe water got in there.

i had a similar problem shortly after buying a disco,
it was down to water getting in to the back of the internal fuse holders, under the dash, the water came form the sun roof which was leaking on the frame and the water was carried to the windscreen. It only became obivious when parked in heavy rain. I had to have the whole fuse holder replaced it began to fuse out. do not leave to long before you sort it out

Hi,

thanks for the reply, it's a 1998 Disco1. I spoke too soon
car was left for 12hrs when I was at work & last night all the
probs came back again i.e. the list of things which wouldnt
work.

Left overnight & this morning everything came back on the same as
yesterday although during my hour drive into work I tried the
intermittent wipe, rear demister etc and they had dropped out again.
Parked at work, opened door & interior light working so checked lights on alarm & it worked too !!!!!.

Cant fathom why everything worked for a while in the morning then
drops out either whilst driving or if car left for a while........very
strange.I'll try to get out at dinner time to check earths, fuse box etc.
Is it ok to spray a fuse box with WD40 if you think water has got in ???

It does appear to be water related as we had a heavy downpour 2 days ago.I think I'll need to check & seal around the sunroof & windscreen.

Your thoughts.........

So it's a 1998 300tdi Disco. Hmm, I've never seen one chiming on glow plugs in my part of the world, maybe this has something to do with the specs.

Then the fault should be near or connected to MFU (multi function unit - behind the pass compartment fuse box) - all these things you mentioned not working run through the MFU. Might be a fuse/connector/wire that leaves part of the MFU without +12V or something discovery kid said above (or even something inside the MFU).

Please can anyone help with central locking,on my 1995 disco!!!!

Key fob(single button) operates the alarm but does not operate the locking system. The key opens the drivers door and when locking with the key i get a double click in the door but no door locks other than the drivers door. I have changed the drivers door lock servo for a new unit, changed the relay and also the batteries in the remote. Please can anyone shed any light on this problem.

Thanks
