Strictly speaking, yes, that is the fuel pressure regulator, however in the Td5 'environment' the whole block including the regulator is commonly known as the FPR, and the piece you're holding is the 'FPR insert'. Apologise for any confusion here.
So the OEM FPR insert is the Bosch one as mentioned earlier in the thread.
There are numerous aftermarket versions - most of them to be better kept at a good distance.

If just an o-ring issue, these can be sourced independently (just get Viton/FKM/FPM made seals) - plenty of kits offered on evil Bay.
If insert issue (inside diaphragm leaking, diesel coming out from the hole/spout), then replace with proper one.
If FPR block leaking (not uncommon due to cracks, porosity, etc.) then I'm afraid a new block is needed.

its funny becouse this aftermarket never came in a fancy box as it was on the car when i bought it any ways lasted from early 2012 to early 2019 it only developed a slight weep out the hole ..... pressure was still good 4 bar .....i could of just left in in place an extra drop of diesel mixed with many other leaks wouldn't harm it

ps the orings have not swollen considering its been in since i purchased

as for the confusion ...... i find it weird becouse when shopping they do not call it an insert ? its only called an insert to those who have little knowledge ...i mean the insert sounds better than that THINGY

Cheers both. Purchased and fitted the bosch one it works fine and looks much better made than the spurious ones available. Just a tip if you ever need to remove the fuel block to change one, I replaced the top left bolt with a stud which made refitting so much easier as I only had to hold casting and one bolt as the stud lined up metal gasket as I started top left bolt. Wound nut on few turns and then put in bottom bolt.
Good tip with the stud I hate fitting the dammed thing.
So the Bosch one is working ok now? There is a motor spares place selling on eBay but they ask for your reg and it says my 2001 15p td5 is not suitable.
Where did you buy yours?
 
I know it's an old thread, but I'm just getting round to fitting the bosch one, there is a pipe on the top of the bosch regulator which is not on the other ones, is it just the atmosphere vent ? The one I have on already has a hole in the end and I suspect that this serves the same purpose as the pipe on the Bosch one.
Does yours have the pipe on the end, and is it working OK?

Yes it has a pipe instead of a breather hole. Mine working just fine. I guess u you could put a length of tube on it if you want to mitigate against fuel all over engine should it spring a leak in the future
 
It's not breather hole. There are engines which are fitted with the same type FPR but with additional vacuum control of the regulator hence that port which on those vehicles is connected to a vacuum line... on Td5 you can ignore it

Many thanks to both of you, I am in the process of rebuilding my TD5 (thread on here) and I will fit the Bosch unit, as mentioned it would be good to put a bit of clear pipe onto the regulator and then if it fails the spillage will not go down into the clutch.
 
FYI,
BOSCH 0 280 160 575 has a smaller hole than Genuine.
many guys from Russia are often drilling the hole to match the genuineā€™s diameter. Some of them, are driving with this regulator as is.

I fitted the Bosch one as it came and the engine runs good. I didn't think to check the hole size before fitting though.
