Hi folks can anyone confirm the fuel pressure regulator on late td5 is Bosch part number 0 280 160 575 I think it is same thing used on some vw/audi product. I cannot read mine in situ and wondered if anyone has one they have taken off and can read number . I have attached part of the Bosch spec sheet and I understand it runs at 4bar which is what TD5 needs.

i agree as i am using one in mine as we speak my local landrover shop DA autos warned me to stay away from them as i was shoping around for prices ... it appears he mentioned something about be carfull then mumbled the rest about a preasure difference and they dont last long in the td5s
i geuss he was just annoyed as they where not doing the job and lost a sale so he tried his sale tactics trying to bump steer for me to purchase a one from them

Cheers both. Purchased and fitted the bosch one it works fine and looks much better made than the spurious ones available. Just a tip if you ever need to remove the fuel block to change one, I replaced the top left bolt with a stud which made refitting so much easier as I only had to hold casting and one bolt as the stud lined up metal gasket as I started top left bolt. Wound nut on few turns and then put in bottom bolt.

glad you got it sorted
thats a very good tip to have a stud ..i will do this next time

just out of curiosity did you find much debri in the gauze ?

No the gauze was spotless but car has only done 75k
did you notice in the fuel pressure reg there is gallerys and ports???? ...keep this in mind if you need to measure head pressure in case of future issues ...... many may get false readings measuring pressure at the temp sensor location

Not trying to high jack, but does Bosch make a HP Regular for the earlier 10P Engines, or just the later?
If so, does anyone have the part number?

And just FYI, since I did mine yesterday, there is a number stamped ion the fuel block (which is a casting number I am told) which doesn’t necessarily correspond to the part number of the regulator to reference which metal gasket to use...go figure.

i am not also here to high jack a thread but do you have a sample of both gaskets to compare ?

well, from left to right,
original design (10P) no idea part number.
Middle is (15P) MSX100080
Right is (10P) MSX000010

Spot on Don your picture shows folded edge on original one. I found that without folding my new one, the stud holes didn't want to line up making installation impossible. I carefully folded the edge on the new one to match the old one which not only let me line it up but also stopped it rolling around when i inserted bolts. I think some late 10P may have had the later one fitted. My understanding is you need the one with square hole at bottom (centre image) for two pipe connector block and the one with round hole (right hand image) for the later three pipe type. I purchased a kit with all o rings and both gaskets for a few quid.

Thanks, Adrian. As My Defender is in Panama, I end up ordering parts I may never use when in doubt (which is often) since shipping is a pain in the butt and expensive to get here. I went with the MSX000010 (3 holes), not the rectangle,

since it lined up better with my fuel block.

Here is a pick with the cavities on the block as it relates to seams on the metal gasket.

I still find it strange how this metal gasket lines on the fuel block up and how it overhangs on other areas. Totally counterintuitive and sets doubt in the mind of the DIYer. We shall see if it works.

There are (3) types of FPR (fuel pressure regulator):

1- Very early type of EU2 FPR fitted to engines up to 10P15967B, P/N MSO00010 and the correct gasket is P/N MSX100080
2- Replacement EU2 FPR design fitted to engines from 10P15968B to the end of EU2 engine production, P/N MSO000080 (now P/N LRO16319) taking gasket P/N MSX000010
3- EU3 (external fuel return line) FPR that was fitted to all EU3 engines, P/N MSO000060 (now P/N LRO16318) taking gasket P/N MSX000010

Doesn't look like it. That's more like an aftermarket one. See pics below.
Viton o-rings are typically brown or light green. Black o-rings are generally Buna/Nitrile etc & given hot diesel and time will fail/leak.

Strictly speaking, yes, that is the fuel pressure regulator, however in the Td5 'environment' the whole block including the regulator is commonly known as the FPR, and the piece you're holding is the 'FPR insert'. Apologise for any confusion here.
So the OEM FPR insert is the Bosch one as mentioned earlier in the thread.
There are numerous aftermarket versions - most of them to be better kept at a good distance.

If just an o-ring issue, these can be sourced independently (just get Viton/FKM/FPM made seals) - plenty of kits offered on evil Bay.
If insert issue (inside diaphragm leaking, diesel coming out from the hole/spout), then replace with proper one.
If FPR block leaking (not uncommon due to cracks, porosity, etc.) then I'm afraid a new block is needed.

i know it was an aftermarket one the orings where not the issiue in my case it weeped fuel internally meaning fuel coming out the tell tail so no need to replace the hole housing
ps i have a preasure gauge installed in the correct place while using no issiues there
