could be a few things , a poor tappet, a piston just touching valve, due to head skim on previous occasion of several others, just lets us know what you find

Thank you for your time, could you advice me what would need doing to the head and maybe where you would recommend, once again thank you.

Might be worth learning how to throw some spanners around if you are going to run an old Disco!. It's a good vehicle to learn on.
I agree, I did suggest to the wife that she could sell a kidney as she doesn't need 2, I will let you know how that went when my eyes stop swelling!!

it depends what found, including measurements of piston heights and depth of valve from head surface , each tappet needs squeezing in a vice with soft jaws to ensure they arent seized, and any suspect replaced ,it will be obvious if valve is bent or burnt

Thank you, James is talking to me now, I will let know what I find when head is removed, Robert.

I really appreciate your expertise on this, I'm making a note of your suggestions and will pass on as a request to the garage, I'm no stranger to spanners, and having owned many British motor bikes, know how things work. But arthritis stops me doing many things, but nothing can serve anyone as well as advice from someone like yourself.

Its seems number one cylinder has the rocker arm hitting the head, will vist garage to find out more later.
OK, there is contact between the rocker and the cylinder head, if releasing the engine mounts doesn't give enough lift to remove camshaft and address problem, then the cylinder head must be removed. This then raises another issue, the Haynes manual suggests these heads cannot be skimmed, beggining to think BONFIRE NIGHT!!
