Hi,
Having a problem with the Autobox on my 2003 Freelander so contacted Bell Engineering who advised me to have the Box Flushed out and Then refilled. Does anyone know anyone in the Bournemouth/Southampton area who can do this because my local Land Rover Specialist tells me it can only be done by a Gearbox/Transmission expert.
Cheers

Would need to know what sort of 'problem' you are having before thinking through a response. Without knowing what the problem is it is tricky to advise. This may be why there are no responses.
Certainly I have heard that flushing can cause problems with dislodged sediment into the fine filters and solenoids. I am not questioning Bell Engineering, but would need to understand the issue as maybe they have experience of the failure that you are experiencing, or may be they suggest the flush as a last ditch attempt if all else fails??

Bit more information please as no one wants to misadvise you.

Thanks for the replies. Right lets get started. We recently covered a 200 mile trip which included lots and lots of hills with many many gear changes and after approx 100 miles the Auto Box was beginning to get lumpy when changing, not the normal smooth changes. I"ve had this same experience a couple of times travelling from our home in the New Forest area to Gatwick Airport but because of Covid we haven"t had a longish journey for 2 or 3 years until this last one. Since Covid we normally drive 40 to 50 miles per week going shopping in Southampton or Bournemouth or just buzzing around the local area so the car nor the Auto Box ever get hot.So what do you think, could it be crappy Oil in the Auto Box or lack of Oil????
cheers
Dave

Or both !

When was the transmission fluid last changed? Roughly, how many miles ago?

If it were mine I would get a standard fluid change and then level checked and I think you will see an improvement. You MUST find someone who can do the Freelander Jatco gearbox. It is easy to cock up. Read the instructions on here and get the garage to TELL you what they are going to do, or more importantly what they are not going to do. Do they know the correct drain plug etc. If they tell you what you have understood then let them do it. If not drive away!!
