Biggest problem is our older engines weren't developed to run on this newer diesel. Our other car which has a Euro 6 engine was made to run on it and I don't put additives in that one.

I still blame the ultra low sulphur diesel for injector problems. Interestingly reports are now starting to appear on the internet with this conclusion from independent bodies. But it's still highly debatable.
As for supermarket diesel, that's a personal choice, I personally wouldn't touch the stuff, but others can do with their injectors what they wish.

I agree with your thoughts on low Sulfur diesel Mike. I've had to restore many bad running, common rail engines to full health over the years. A huge majority of owners have told me they buy the cheapest fuel they can get. Even my own TD4 came onto my possession, running like a bag of crap. Guess what. The previous owner only used supermarket fuel. I changed to Shell and add a monthly dose of Diesel Magic and all the running issues went away. Ok I did blank the EGR valve and clean out the inlet manifold. But I've not touched the injectors, other than put decent fuel and cleaners in the tank. The common rail injectors seem to be very sensitive to poor quality fuel. So my own experiences is enough to discourage use of potentially lower quality supermarket fuels.

Up until about a year ago I ran a couple of white vans here in France. 2 X Sprinter's, each with over 650.000 kilometers, A Movano with the same mileage. Always used the regular diesel and no additives. Never had any injector or any other engine issues with them. I did once fill the tank of one of the Sprinters with the premium stuff by accident. Couldn't feel any difference what so ever.
I wouldn't waste my money. I think a good run every now and again does them more good.

I use Millers in the Ninety, the Massey tractor, the Td5, and the odd splash in the Mondeo. I am not certain it is necessary, but at a penny per litre of fuel bought in bulk, it can't hurt, and may help.
