Is it worth spending the extra on the premium diesel in the garage for my TD4 or stick to the el cheapo. Thoughts please. Ta
 
I use V power for the 1st fill in 4, the other 3 are normal Shell diesel. I also use Comma Diesel Magic at fill No3.

I use a mixture of Texaco with Miller's diesel power and 2 stroke oil (mineral)
If the mpg starts to drop off I put a tank of Texaco premium in.
Unlike many diesel engines the TD4 responds very well to premium fuel and you can actually feel a difference.

Nodge68 Can you explain to me how using bog standard diesel will damage an injector to such an extent it would need to be replaced?
The premium diesel at the the pumps is bog standard diesel with so called miracle additives.
If you went to the refinery, do you think ther is a state of the art plant where the make the premium diesel, and an old shed round the back where they make the cheaper fuel.
If I had injector trouble I would check my fuel is not contaminated, and make sure my engine is burning the fuel correctly/ efficiently.

In a word no.
However there's loads of reports of fouled and damaged M47 injectors, caused by crap, supermarket diesel. It's not worth risking injector life, for the sake of a couple of Pence per litre.
 
I think you will find its been a case of some new supermarket stations having fuel contamination issues. For example a tesco station local to me had a problem with water getting in a diesel storage tank. The fuel arrives there in a esso tanker.
Anyway the original question was premium fuel vs standard. Not supermarket vs branded
 
I work on a refinary. it is just additives mostly.
However supermarkets sometimes use imported fuel and this can be quite ropey at times, hence I always fill up at branded stations but always buy their cheapest
 
Cheepo fer me but i do slap in injector cleaner once a year, mine runs perfect, even slap bio in it, just my thoughts. :)

ming where on earth have you been ,also never ever fill up when the tanker is delivering it churns anything that is in the bottom of the garages tanks up.
 
I use the new Shell V-Power Diesel with boostedDYNAFLEX technology, designed to help restore engine performance, according to my Shell Drivers Club bumf that came through the post recently :D
 
Lob a ltr of white spirit in every k mile with 20 ltr of tesco. Lots of crap comes out for a bit but shifts the crap out ;)
 
I still blame the ultra low sulphur diesel for injector problems. Interestingly reports are now starting to appear on the internet with this conclusion from independent bodies. But it's still highly debatable.
As for supermarket diesel, that's a personal choice, I personally wouldn't touch the stuff, but others can do with their injectors what they wish.
