Hey guys! Im normally over on the 90/110 page but just thought its prob worth putting on here!

Im looking for someone/company to do a pre purchase inspection for me on a 1997 300tdi 90, Does anyone know anyone in the Cumbria area (Penrith) who could help?

Thanks steve.

would do it myself but im on the isle of man! :)

Rac do it buddy then give you a full report on the vehicle if that's any help . Don't have to be a member but cheaper if you are

... And to a non member it will only set you back about £250!

Cheap at half the price, but don't ask Drivel as he'll make it not work ever again!

Only joking! However he is in that area, and might have a look for you in exchange for a working V8 manual.

Try sending him a PM.

can show you exactly what an RAC inspection covers when I get home.
Mine had one done by a prospective buyer who then decided not to go ahead, he kindly gave the seller a copy (which I have)
quite amusing reading imo, it even covers to "radio missing" the picture where they mark and X on the fault was 2 pages, cos they mark every ding n scrape in the body...

Did the report have anything useful? Anything that wasn't obvious? Anything that you didn't know about? Anyhtying that would have put you off buying if it had been you who commissioned the report on a prospective purchase?

TBH in my case no, because I'd done my homework and know what to look for, as well as being reasonably mechanially minded.
Mechanical stuff thrown up was "oil leaks" (duh) "excess" backlash in the drivetrain, which was fixed by the seller with a set of drive members before I bought it. some other silly bits like "brake level fluid low" I wouldnt have called it low, it was 1/2 way. And "steering cowl missing" which at the time of inspection it was, tho it was sat on the passenger seat apparently, because he turned up just as the seller was changing the headlight switch that had become tempremental

Completly forgot about this last night, hence no attachement, will set meself a reminder to post it on or PM it to you this eve.

Reet, here it is the full unedited (except identity markers) version of my scabby fender :)

What it doesnt really tell you is the extent of some of the issues, for example the gear "crunch/clash" is into 2nd, and has been much the same on every fender I test drove.
The "corrosion" on the wheels was nothing more than surface rust on white landy wheels.
The "excessive corrosion" needed a couple of patches, the largest of the 2 about the same size as a 10 pack of fags.
and the numberplate light was "dull" took about 30 seconds to fix that one, take off lens, empty out muck and give it a wipe, put it back...
