Tried to reburb power steering pump on my discovery 2 TD5 04 as it has a small leak and was doing water pump anyway. Got it nearly all apart but no idea how the main shaft from pulley that goes all the way to water pump comes out. I have tried for days now and need my car on the road. This is really annoying. I tried twisting and pressing so many ways but not moved a ml. Any tips much appreciated. Thanks

Hi, the part you've arrowed is not a tight fit (you'll be surprised). I got one of the exchange pumps which was supplied without that fitted & when I contacted them they said remove your old one before sending it back which I did by just prying it off. As for stripping the rest of it I'm not sure if the shaft needs to be pressed out.
I'm sure someone will be along soon who's done it, best of luck.

The chuck that fits into the water pump chuck will not bodge, i have used so much force i could snap the shaft but nothing. Yh i have new bearing and seals kit so shaft has to come out. I'm sure it will come out easy enough once this chuck is off. Is there definitely not a thread on the shaft holding the chuck on? Mine is completely original, untouched pump since 2003, so it's really on there

It could well be stuck on due to age. I first got one of the cheap chinese pumps which lasted less than 50 miles before it leaked so I got a refund & ordered a recon. pump which then leaked out of the fr. & rr seals:mad: so I contacted the 'seller' & he sent out another re-con pump but it arrived without the water pump drive spigot & after contacting them he said remove the drive spigot from the failed pump & fit it to the 'new' one which I did & was surprised how easily it came off & touch wood it's been ok since. I don't what to suggest really, hopefully someone else can help who's refurbed their own pump.
Pics of my pump without water pump drive & me knocking on the one I removed from the failed pump.

How did you remove old chuck. I have put in many hours of blood sweat and tears. My brain has been coming up with amazing ideas endlessly but it has not moved at all. A few ways looked good but put to much pressure on the housing and i don't want to destroy it. I refurb everything on this usually and with no issues. Thus shaft has me at a loss. I pushed that shaft with over 10 tone of pressure and nothing, chuck still on tight. How did you remove the old one? Thanks. P.s it's the original untouched pump fitted Dec 2003.

Hi, I got my re-con pump from rr steering (e bay) you can see their sticker in the pic of my pump. I can only presume that because the 1st pump they sent leaked & had already had that drive removed it made it easier for me to remove a week later, I did this with a couple of flat bladed screwdrivers which is why I said you'll be suprised how easy they come off:rolleyes:, evidently not in your case. Here's the link for them, they were very helpful so I can only suggest you e-mail them for suggestions. Sorry I can't help because I know it's a PITA when you get stuck like this, best of luck.
