Evening all,

The current PAS fluid is red ATF stuff and I want to replace it with the proper green stuff. Owners seem to suggest either sucking it out of the reservoir and repeatedly filling over time or, bleeding it whilst pouring new fluid in. I'm concerned that both methods will mix fluids. I'd like to take all the old fluid out first and then replace with new. Does anyone know the best way of doing this, please?

Thanks everyone.

you cant ,a pipe on the bleed nipple and keep filling till colour changes would be best way, but mixing wont hurt nor will using the atf

Silly question time, but why do you want to change it?

Cheers
Not a silly question. The steering is getting a little groany at times and I know that this fluid has been in for the last 3 years and 30k miles since the the steering box was replaced. I thought I'd do it whilst doing all the other fluids.

OK, sounds good, but why change it from ATF to the cold climate fluid. ATF is easier to get hold of if needed i an emergency and is also used anyway.

Cheers

You make a very reasonable point! I did a bit of digging on the subject and quite a number of people recommended using the cold climate fluid. I think I got carried away with all my fluid buying (although I didn't get sucked in to buying Difflock fluids for the gearbox/trans box and diffs!).

the same pump and box have been run on atf for decades well enough, it wasnt an issue needing sorting

I do not think we live in the environment that requires the CCF.

I am terrible at work and quiet happily stick in whatever is in the nearest jug!

On the car, every few oil changes I just suck out the pas reservoir contents and refill with fresh, takes no time at all.

I’ve tried everything on my D2... red PS fluid, red tranny fluid, purple Royal Purple PS fluid but the green Westward CCF and/or green CHF 11s (central hydraulic fluid) works the best for me.
