I'm surprised your 1994 110 hasn't already got PAS. To do, you'll need flow and return hydraulic hoses, PAS pump and mounting bracket, PAS drive belt to attach to crank front pulley and possibly a new pulley. See here for PAS components for ref' https://www.lrworkshop.com/diagrams/land-rover-defender-steering/steering-column-lower

Subject to your existing steering box type/model, choose a suitable model year to base the PAS components req'd. Where a std 2.5n/a engine it would make sense to base this on early Defender/1987 onwards. Though both early and later systems are near identical.

When I converted my ex-MOD 1986 2.5NA D to PAS back in the day (Y2K I think?) I bought a full SH kit from one of the stalls at Billing, much easier to buy the whole kit take-off as you know everything is there.
I recall people often commented that they were buying parts separately (some new and others SH) and while the box, pipes, pump, reservoir etc were easy enough to source they were struggling with the bottom pully & pump bracket as they were either difficult to find or very expensive.

But don't buy a second hand pump/pump of unknown origin. They're a pain in the arse to change so buy new, fit and forget.

Ex military 110? Quite possible that the bottom pulley will have the extra grove for the power steering . All my bits came from Newbury show ground the most difficult part was the pump bracket

Did mine with bits from an Old Range Rover Classic with 200tdi that was in the farm scarp dump.
plus a new Pump

Had to fabricate a bracket for the alternator and source a short belt

Hello. I am in the USA and have a 1986 Land Rover 110, former MOD. I'd like to know how to convert my LR to power steering. Is there a parts list and sources in the UK or USA?

Welcome to Landy Zone. Note you're in Jenner-on-Sea, CA...I was based in Walnut Creek many years ago, NrthCal/Jenner is a cracking area to live.

Your best bet is to study the https://www.lrworkshop.com/diagrams/land-rover-defender-steering/steering-column-lower components. You will need the following:

  • Flow & return hydraulic lines
  • Power Steering Pump & Pulley
  • Power Steering Pump Bracket
  • 2 or 3 Groove Crank Pulley
All of the parts are readily available, but be careful where you buy from as some suppliers are very expensive[!] LRWorkshop is great because it searches the most relevant suppliers + links to eBay vendors [not always the best priced] + it would be really worth getting in contact with Mike at Britannica Restorations in Canada. He's a font of all knowledge and may have parts in stock he could sell to you https://britrest.com/ + Mike has a good video here on power steering it shows the primary components.

I looked at the Britrest web page and subscribed but I don't see any way to register for an account or contact Mike.
