Hi all
Having just finished swapping my steering box on my disco as it was leaking from the input/column side, from my parts car i have a bit of an issue with it
The first half a turn/turn both ways feels ok but any further and i need arms like popeye to turn the wheel
I thought this was a bleed issue but i am sure it’s bled as much as possible and can’t seem to bleed it any more
Could this be cured with the adjustment thingy on the box and if so how do i adjust it?
Many thanks
Cheers in advance

The steering box adjustment is to remove backlash. If you over do that adjusting then the steering will be hard turning throughout.
If it was the original box and the issue suddenly appeared, i’d look at the four ball joints first, although the hydraulic system is powerful enough to turn the wheels from lock to lock.

Download the D1 workshop manual as there is a load of testing that can be done therefore and will save guessing .
Do u have the drop arm on correctly?

I’m sure the drop arm is on correctly, this box seemed and felt good on my parts car and looks identical to my leaky box
Like i say it seems like it needs bleeding but i simply can’t bleed any more air out even using the bleed nipple on the box
Don’t suppose you have a link to the workshop manual by any chance?
Many thanks

Ive never had an issue with bleed the steering system, I replace the 23 year old fluid in my disco four or five months without any issues, after replacement there was no change in the feel of the steering and the old fluid was identical in colour to the replacement stuff, so a waste of my time that was, but the old fluid was great for lighting a bonfire. :)
Anyway, turning the steering lock to lock a few time is supposed to self bleed the system, may need also the to crack the bled valve on top of the box…who knows.
