I've got a short wheel base 2.25 diesel that seems to lose power the longer I drive it.

Yeah, I know they're not that powerful to start with!

Anyways during longer trips it takes longer and longer to get back up to 80 kph after slowing down, for say a round about, the further into the journey I go. Foot to the floor and still it drags its arse.

I'm pretty sure the clutch isn't slipping, although I've had this happen previously.

I might be imagining it, but it seems fairly sprightly until I put the over drive in and then it seems to get sluggish. Could the overdrive be sapping power?

As I get further into a journey, say 30 mins, I can have my foot to the floor and have no acceleration to show for it.

Yeah, I know it's a diesel.......
 
As a rule of thumb 1st Check:
Tank Breather / screen filter.
Main fuel Filter
Air filter and Oil bath (if fitted).
Distro Pump Filter (top of pump)
 
Not sure on mileage, but clock says 45000 klms (which I'm guessing isn't quite right).

I did notice drivers side rear wheel was a little hot when I stopped. Others were warm. I know this would slow her down, but it only feels 'sluggish' at around 60 kph onwards.

I've just given it a birthday and have cleaned the sedimentor, renewed diesel filter, cleaned the filter in the distributor pump and renewed the oil in the air filter.......plus oil the oils have been changed out.

Where abouts is the tank filter/ screen filter?

Ha ha ha...yeah there are a few long gently sloping hills but wouldn't have thought this would test the 'awesome power' of the 2.25 diesel!

Oh yeah, and she's empty of any gear...just carrying me about!
 
Got a bit of time to look into these problems again.

Can anyone tell me where the fuel tank breather is? Is it just the fuel filler cap?

Also, is there a way to adjust the brakes, as I'm still getting one wheel over heat.

theres a small pipe coming out of the fuel tank and thats the breather.

When you say adjust the brakes because one is overheating........is one of the wheel cylinders sticking causing the shoes to stay out ?

Not sure what the brake issue is, but one of the rear wheels is hot after driving around.

Thought I read somewhere that the brakes could be adjusted somehow??

I'd be inclined to check and adjust your brakes before doing anything else.

If you can feel the heat, then something is potentially seriously wrong!

Take the wheel off and you should find that the drum is held in place by a big countersunk slotted head screw. Remove that and the drum should pull off revealing the shoes, cylinders and springs.

The adjuster is on the other side of the plate that holds all the gubbins together, and you should be able to tell if everything is working properly by backing off the adjuster and seeing if there is any movement.

It is also possible that your drums are full of accumulated ****, and that once you have cleaned them out everything is OK again.

yep theres a star type scre on the back of the wheel plate that you can turn clockwise/anti to bring the shoes up and down to the surface of the drum
