I have an M reg 1995 300TDi and have just started towing a caravan. I have noticed that when going up an incline or starting from a standing start the power is really slow to get going.
I often find myself at 4,000rpm in first due to the fact that if i change up the disco feels like it will stall...
I know this isnt right as my friend has the same disco and roughly the same caravan and has no problems pulling..
I have so far removed and cleaned the fuel sediment filter and replaced the fuel filter not sure where to go next..

thanks the EGR was removed before i got it, i did service it 5months ago so i think i will start with the intercooler..

Whats the best way to clean it?

remove, soak in white spirit, rinse in clean spirit, leave out untilll the smell has completly gone and refit

Check all the vacuum hoses, even the small ones under the turbo, they can split with age and heat.

Get under the bonnet and rev the engine while squeezing the turbo hose from the inter cooler. You should feel it go hard with the pressure inside [ the hose not your dick ]If its still soft then pull the elbow hose off the turbo and check that the blades are still intact and spin free . You will need a mirror to see the blades.
