I've had a search and can't find anything so I'll pose the question.

I was doing about 70mph on the motorway and the engine suddenly died with no power and the check engine light came on. I pulled on to the hard shoulder and switched the ingition off and tried to start it again. It started and ran fine with no lights staying, it's like it rebooted itself. Any idea what happened and is it going to be a recurring problem.

Guesing it's a TD5!!
They have a common problem with the accelerator switch.
Give it a clean and should be ok for a while again

Check the ECU earth point under the drivers seat and give it a good clean. Or it could have flipped the ECU into limp mode if the turbo was overboosting or the MAP (inlet manifold pressure) sensor is full of crap from the EGR or faulty.
