They would be great if they were the turbo to FIP pipe... :D Though might as well do the intercooler pipes at the same time for the sake of 20quid.
 
RW.... please keep updating this thread, you're describing my symptoms perfectly. 300TDI cruising smoothly, but drastically lose power going up hills. Temperatures sits nice and low with no smoke so I'm hoping it's a relatively inexpensive fix
 
Will do, won't be doing much until the weekend though, its too damn cold :rolleyes:

But here's what I am planning to look at;
  • Turbo to FIP hose - going for a swap on this
  • Intercooler pipes - looking to swap these out too (though won't be a for a couple of weeks)
  • Fuel tank - going to drain the fuel tank to see if there's any crud in it (it was pretty much a full tank when the problem happened last weekend).
  • Fuel filter - probably replace this while I'm at it
I did try to get the problem to repeat today by giving it the beans up a steep hill (and overtaking a van in the crawler lane) but alas, it performed well and just kept pulling instead of the power plateauing and dropping off.:confused: So more testing required to repeat the problem. Fortunately the adverse weather means my Landy is my daily so plenty of opportunity to test...
 
So have still yet to have a repeat occurrence of this issue (I've no doubt the problem is still there), thought I might get some power loss yesterday getting up and down unploughed roads but nope no massive drop off of power. though I'm not sure it was max power I was getting, hard to tell on snow.
 
That’s an odd one!
I wished my issue would rectify itself lol.

As soon as it gets a little warmer I’m going to check the timing and reset the valve clearance. James Martin suggested this and it could be a very useful starting point before going through your list. I’d much rather not spent money where possible
 
Inspected the fuel tank today, seems to be a small amount of crud on the bottom so looks like it'll be needing a clean anyway.

Changed the fuel filter today, the old one was pretty clean with no obvious crud build up and the fuel that came out of it was pretty clean. It was last changed about a year and half ago and not a lot of miles (maybe 1,000miles).
What I did find, however, was the fuel filer bleed screw threads were a bit suspect in the housing and re-tapping didn't do much so a new housing is no on the to-do list (not expensive think it might a breaker's yard job (£50 new?!?!)). Though haven't noticed any signs of fuel leaking through it recently.

Had a look in the expansion tank while I was at it and it looks like the coolant has seen better decades... so that will be getting a flush and refresh next weekend when I change the thermostat and replace the pipe boost control pipe.
Had a look at the inter cooler hoses and they seem in good nick so will leave them alone but will be changing the radiator bleed pipes (as I reckon they're probably full of crud after looking in the expansion tank.

If that lot doesn't work then it'll be time to look at the fuel pipes... :confused:

So I ballsed up the coolant renewal, flushed the radiator, header tank and stuck the house in the t-stat housing but completely forgot about the heater matrix and that I didn't take the drain plug out the side of the block... so the coolant is sort of renewed (at least some bits have had a could run through with the hose) and new t-stat is fitted.

Changing the fuel filter housing ), however, revealed what I think may be a cause of some power loss. There was crud in one of the unions. See the piccys.

Have a looky at the air filter, they're rubbish when a bit damp, in this weather that may happen ...
