Gave it a go today and very pleased with the outcome so far, these housings were only in for a couple of hours, left them in with the backing plates till tomorrow night, hope they don't disintegrate :eek:

The acid stuff you bought looks ok , mines a different brand so old label wore off. It would be worth getting oil and grease off first as this might stop,acid working , also keep your liquid cleaner, I guess you can keep on using it.
I found there could be hard scale on , that after acid bath would need hitting with centre punch to get scale off then out back in ,
DONT leave too long certainly not overnight as you will find it starts to eat clean metal and leave a pitted surface , not big issue on the housings apart from the gasket face , by careful placing/ submersion you can prevent some delicate areas getting the treatment
The electrolysis method good for bigger parts as v cheap but does take overnight , I’m away at the mo when I get bad I’ll see if I can find some epics of when I did the axle

Will take them out tonight then wash them down with something ready for priming. Still got the Hub's to go in then start on the rear bits. Need to find something big enough for leaf springs

Backing plates and Housings were in all night, but the Hubs and Arms were only in for a couple of hours tonight and have come up as good.
Gave them a wash with some TFR stuff I have might give them a first coat of Primer tomorrow.

Cracking job, saved a whole lot of cup brushing and dust everywhere.
This saves all of that . will give them a quick spray with primer to keep them clean as oedered some red oxide and Corroless Top Coat, they should look brand new when painted.
 
Cleaned up a few more bits ready for painting.
are these normal ? looks like someone has been hacking away at them for some reason or another. its the rears fronts are ok.

Still waiting of paint coming so thought Id bring this in to strip down.
Not sure if its fixable ? Im sure you lot have seen worse. I have both new footwells from YRM but need the sides and feet too.

I think the bits that need replacing are bits you can buy, the rest seems solid, got a welder mate will see what he says.
If its to far gone then it means more money to spend looking for another.:mad:
 
Getting on with painting whilst waiting on other things, should be ready to build back up both axles soon.
Still looking for someone to look at engine .

Finally got my Chassis back welded up new crossmember, outrigger and a few patches. Can get cracking on now with it.
I aint a welder so not sure if this welding is good decent or bad Ill leave that to you welders on here to comment.
Its getting shot blasted next week will then decide weather to prime and paint or get it Galvanised. still not sure what to do yet.

Finally blasted, All Good except 4 or 5 small holes on one side, will get them welded, got a good Price to get it Galvanised so hopefully off next week to get done.

Starting to get myself motivated again. Got some temporary wheels on rear axle, front tomorrow.
Was hoping to get springs on then get chassis rolling then remembered Id left the shackle thingys in the brick acid cleaner, usually leave them in a couple of days, but these were in for there about 3 weeks :eek: have to order some now, dont think there too dear.

Got a bit done since my last post on this thread.
Chassis rolling now, new brake pipes, bulkhead back all welded up and fits perfect.
Rear tub next I think but it does need a bit of work, on mounting holes front and rear, got one of these for the rear Rear Body Mounting - LR Defender & Series - YRM Metal Solutions (yrmit.co.uk) but not sure what to do for front holes, any Ideas ?
Refurbing some underfloor supports to put back on too.
