Was going arround 50 on a B road today, i go down this road a lot and went round a corner to face a massive feckin puddle that isn't usually there, not your average aqua plane puddle either, you could probably take off in this one, must have been at least a foot deep at the side (blocked drain). anyway some other cars coming the other way and the puddle was on a bend covering my half of the road, cars or puddle/lake? well the look on the other drivers faces was the funniest thing i have ever seen as they see, some terrified looking landy driver and what could only bee described as a tidal wave coming straight for them, as i took the puddle option. when i hit the water i must of been going around 40 so she did lift up and everything felt as if i was going to die, steering didn't work for a while, i couldn't see a thing, water was pouring through every hole and i veered off the road, thankfully on to a bit of grass verge, still at 35 or so, i contiinued and made it through. it was a bit of a shock but i was more worried about the car, i have no snorkle although i think this is a good thing as the wave came right back over the top of the car, and would have probably poured righ in to a hypothetical snorkle.

anyway all working fine afterwards (1988 90 2.5td), so just wondering if it was all a bit too luck to get away with it, is there something i could have damaged without knowing??

cheers....W

"driving without due care and attention"?

"driving inapropriately for the road conditions"?

Um...yes, probably, but when i say i know the road, i go down it every day at least once, and never seen anything like this, i would say that 50 is fair in light rain, but i suppose, clearly not! - driving like a scared fat tw*t indeed!

makes me feel better by saying that - TVE and Boydy, Cheers

what did you do in the end Boydy?

You're just jealous cos he made it out the other side of his puddle.;) :D :p

Any news from Boomerv8 on wether he's gonna post his piccys daft? I don't think there is a single moment he didn't photograph.

didn drive too nice either, for the first mile until the engine had warmed up enough to fire the 4th cylinder, at which point it was low on power, but not aweful. Until i took the sump off, and found a large chuck of bore lying in the bottom, which had been smashed off by the big end, which interfaced with the bore 'cos the conrod was that bent. Im going back to surrey to strip the engine in a week or so, ill take some piccies of the old conrod. And that water was only up to the top of the rims, and i was doing perhaps 15 mph into it. I was unlucky, you were lucky.
