On the face of it, it sounds like your car is functioning perfectly normally for a standard TD5 auto. In std form the TC is underspecc'd for the application with too higher stall speed, which means it revs it's nuts off before getting proper drive.

The single best modification you could do, is a change of the Torque Converter for an Ashcroft HD version.

Ashcroft Transmissions.

This will make a BIG difference to how your car drives.

As biglad says,I have the HD torque converter from Ashcrots and gear changes are around 2k revs,sometimes just under 2k

i had an Auto for 14 days, got rid! hated it!, all revs and no go, manual for me, then i am in control, proper driving!!

If you had driven an HD TC equipped autobox car you might well have had a different opinion. The difference is quite unbelievable !

maybe, i have read about em, but it was not for me!
manual is my preference, least it doesn't free wheel down hills, the auto has no engine break, i was taught to drive without using the brakes, using the correct gears,

That's why you can Manually select the gears on a Autobox, clever idea on long hill descents you can select 3 / 2 or 1 and get engine braking and engaging sport mode also helps

I believe that if people where taught how to drive a Autobox or taught themselves then a lot of the "misconceptions" would disappear

yes i agree! but when you live in an area like we have, you might just aswell have a manual rather than doing all 3 on an Auto, i tried but did not like, My preference, but may not suit others, although having 4 ton on the back sometimes won't help!
