Hey guys I'm kinda a nooblet so u know....
I'm about to get a l322 3ltr diesel 2006
But the doors are deadlocked it's doing all wacky stuff because of the doors the lights are bit interesting aswell. My friend has sent the car to an auto electrical guy and they say it's his lcm causing all the faults ywc500281 I'm about to go buy a used one of fleebay and a coder dongle the bmw pasoft but my question is this .... Wouldn't the bcm cause the doors to deadlock and not the lcm? I was about to click buy now then I started to think lol sorry to waste your time in this but the guidance would be grand I'm based in kent

Battery, damp and corrosion, been parked up for a while... You'll only know how bad it is until your legs are in and your savings have dwindled... But then you could be lucky.... :rolleyes:
 
Unlikely the LCM - the LCM holds a copy of vehicle data like mileage and coding information etc as a backup to the instrument pack...but other than that all it does is turn lights on and off, get wet then cause all sorts of lighting faults....but it wouldn't be the cause of issues with the door locks.

It can prevent some communication to the BCU via diagnostics by tying up the canBUS network when it goes south - but powering the door locks is on the P Bus triggered via the BCU for the front doors to the front door modules and then hardwired to the locks themesleves from there and the rears are direct powered via the BCU as is the tailgate..

With buying this car you need and I hope you have checked out the rest if the car.

If there is any rust in the rear door shuts assume its got into the sills and is in the process of rotting the rear jacking points.

You need to inspect the car really.

If this electrical problem is the only issue it has then it might be worth it. However if its the issues extend beyond this then the bill will mount.

Unless you know the cause of its electrical woes you can safely assume its deeper than you think. At present it sound like you are believing what your told.

in June I bought a l322. I don't know what I am doing. I went to see the car figured because it has no electrical woes, good engine and gearbox, good paint and interior, it was alright. It had some mot advisories and a bit of rear arch rust. How bad could that be? There was a suspension fault. The vendor told me its just a fault code that needs clearing, I was skeptical. A specialist that I took it too told me it was the suspension ecu and I bought one as a result. My local garage who are just competent (but also charge for that), plugged into there code reader and new what the problem was -a failed compressor and two height sensors. They also were able to address all it other mechanical defects. I did tell them go through it bumper to bumper and let me know the full list. Rotten brake lines, front cv joints were a bit beyond an advisory and so where the ball joints. They were nicely seized and required replacing. Abs pump failure. Shocked bad pads and rotors even though they had been replaced by the previous owner, bodge repair on the brake lines..... they let me know how bad the sills were.

There was 100 hrs of body work and fabrication e.t.c mostly due to the rust in the rear arch, sills and jacking points. I did also have the tailgate derusted and painted. It was far worse than expected.

My bill was enormous. There was almost none of this work I could have done myself, except for pads and rotors and given the bill I was facing I could not be bothered. Neither could I sell it with a clear conscience.. If knew now what I did not them I would have walked away and search out the prefect 02 to 05 m62 powered l322.

What I am saying is given you have not seen it and inspected it you cant know the full extent of its problems. your friend may be a stand up guy but they may not know much more than me in June.
