hi I am a new member and this is also my first Range Rover I have a l322 4.4 v8 petrol/lpg automatic 2003 and I am having gearbox problems it drives perfect up until I come to a bank and then the gearbox dosnt know what to do it will drop a gear but then select up a gear again then starts to bog then will change down again and continue to do this until back on a level surface also if I put my foot down on incline flat or decline it will drop down but won’t continue to go through the gears it will just clim up the rpm and rev out at 4K until I let of it will then select up but I carnt put my foot down I have to nurse it to get it going well the engine management light will keep flashing until I nurse it I have changed the gearbox oil and filter I am unsure of we’re to go from here
 
@Saint.V8 did a detailed gearbox service on the 5hp24 on the l322 it is a bit of a procedure.

They aren't the best gearboxes

Best call is to get her on diagnostics to see why she is trowing a management light.
 
Might not be a gearbox problem.....

Flashing engine management light means there is a misfire that can potentially damage the cats.

The constant hunting of gears could be the torque demand of the engine isn't being satisfied....as it has a misfire it will be down a bit on power so when you are on the hill, you ease in a bit more throttle, the engine can't deliver the required torque demand (because of the misfire) and will drop down a cog to keep the engine revs up into the required torque output, then it realises that the engine speed is now to high and will go up a gear - only to find out that due to the misfire it cannot sustain the power output required and will drop down a cog again....etc

The kick down issue, I get this sometimes - it will kick down and then hold that gear for longer than normal, I think this is part of the gearbox shift strategy and will eventually shift up once you release the throttle a bit.

I would get it on diagnostics and check the engine codes, as it may not be a gearbox problem but an engine power output problem.

As ant says with his reply, needs to be plugged in to diagnostics.
What happens in manual mode ?
Did you follow the correct procedure on filling the transmission with the engine running with the correct fluid ?

in manual it shifts fine but it lacks abit of power and engine management light flashes
 
As Ant says, I think your problem is not transmission but is the transmission trying to compensate for another engine related fault. You flashing light should mean you have a code stored which will point you in the right direction. Do you have access to any LR diagnostics?

Yeah I have a icarsoft reader and it will tell me that there is a misfire but it won’t give me a code
 
No need for the code if it tells you which cylinder(s) are misfiring......

And I think it should - top left corner of the screen.....I think it does. I will have to check my iCarsoft video and see if I can see it!

It dosnt tell me what cylinder a friend is going to plug it into his snap on computer for me tomorrow could a broken o2 sensor cause a misfire? As both cam sensors have been replaced and all the coil packs have been replaced
 
Which iCarsoft have you got?

And an O2 sensor down, may not cause a misfire, but should bring on the MIL ......

Misfire on cylinders 2 4 1 6 and 3 lambda control adaption fault bank 1 also o2 sensor bank 1 down stream sensor.
Cleared them took it another couple of runs and got misfire on 2 and 4

I am thinking a collapsed or block catalytic converter.....common on the M62 powered 5'er and 7'er and not unheard of on the L322 either......I would be looking there also!

The i930 is good for reading faults but can be lacking in further information.

Okay thanks ever so much for all the info and help just made me way home and got a misfire on cylinder 1 so it’s definitely pointing to bank 1
