Hi Guys
Done my timing belt and the engine fires up, although when running there is a constant poppng coming from the snorkal. Now is this just the timing out or valve damage or a bit of both.

if the tappets were ok before then they should be ok after!!! (enless you adjusted them at the same time as doing the cam belt!!!!)

didn his belt snap? i may be wrong though.

mine made that noise when one of the valve caps had fallen off somewhere.

Thanks guys
Now ive taken the cover off adjusted tapets and no 4 was well out put it all back together again and the noise is still there so I done it all again and guess what the noise is still there. could it be the timing out on the belt.

Others may correct me, but I dont think a motor will run 180 degs out. Be VERY careful tho cus u can easliy do some serious damage here

i had this argument a while ago. Its not possible to get a 4 stroke engine '180 degrees' out. Itll be one tooth out on the cam shaft, takes an hour or two to correct it.

Tis possible - done it when I put a new short motor in. Put the HT leads or Dizzy cap (cant remember which) back on wrong - right sequence of firing strokes just the wrong stroke (ie there are four strokes in the sequence). Wouldnt start but popped like buggery when I towed it for miles trying to bump it.

nah see thats different again - what he means above is that the valves are 180 degrees out wrt the pistons, but if the marks are lined up that aint gonna happen.

With yours you had the valves in time with the pistons, but the spark was happennin on the end of the exhaust stroke, so the valves weren't in synch with the ignition. This aint possible with a dooseil.

yeha it is...

Four stroke.
Meaning...
Induction
Compression
Ignition
Exhaust

4 strokes of the pistons = one full power cycle. Not Four star, as in Leaded Petrol.

A 2 stroke only has, uh, 2 strokes to each cycle, i.e. a wee moped etc.

too right!

But still, you cant get it out of phase like you said though.

And no i can't b arsed drawing the pictures to show you how again either :)

Well I did! Gonna have a think now ow I did it. Sure I just moved the HT leads round but it was a long time ago so.............I know it started first flick of the key after I'd done it tho.
