I have done a service on ther carb using genuine webber kit, new in line fuel filter ( old one was caked up ) glass fuel filter is new as is lift pump, i suspected ign side of things so i have just fitted a simonbbc electronic pick up, rotor new dizzy cap new leads new coil fit it and re set timing to 6' btdc as per manual for 95 ron unleaded and its still doing it???????????????? exhaust is new and seems to have no leaking joints please help regards jonny

Did you pop a new condenser in the dizzy while you were at it? should do (SORRY ..electonic ign..doooh)

Could be leaking gasket on carb, sounds like it's running a bit weak, have a look at plug colour it should be light grey, if ashen then too weak.

Timing isnt critical and difficult to set spot on with a worn engine. try some more advance and see if it improves. Dont be afraid to advance ign as the more the better till it pinks then back it off a bit.
:)

There are lots of reasons you get popping on overrun , there a few easy fixes you can try first before you start messing around with things like the timing.
I would first check the tightness of the bolts holding the carb to the manifold and all the inlet and exaust manifold bolts.
The popping is usually caused by air getting in somewhere and these bolts are famous for working loose .

nothing ventured.....

mine popped and stalled exactly as that. fixed the stalling by fitting an SU carb. still popped after that, I changed the dizzy from ducellier to lucas copy and it stopped the popping.

i figure the stalling was something causing the plugs to foul up on the overrun so it would stall after slowing down. though it doesnt do it with the SU, so it was possibly the vacuum on the air filter line that mine had.

popping seemed to be timing advance - i could reduce it by reducing the effect of the vacuum advance in the ducellier with the little wheel thing in there. i only changed the dissy cos the ducellier was worn out, fixin the popping was a happy coincicence :)

many thanks for the replies guys, i think its running weak as when going down hill and its popping if i pull choke out a little it stops????? is it a case of bigger main jet???? cheers jonny
