hi everybody newbie on board love reading the forum lots of interesting tips picked up already could do with a bit of help with 96 rr 4.6 hse its a pig to start cold or hot spin the engine over for a good 30-40 seconds with foot to the floor before she will start then a strong smell of fuel for a few seconds as if flooded then runs ok apart from a low tickover and slightly lumpy any ideas please

Make sure you don't have any air leaks, a small leak can cause alsorts of problems

thanks for your response ironhorse did an air leak check last week non found was thinking of trying these magnacor leads and a good set of plugs not had the car long so i dont no what has been fitted and when if it was an earlier type with a dissy it would just need a little tweek to help it start but alas everything is electronic on these beasts

try not to touch throttle when starting, i think the book says that and the management system will take care of that for you anyway.
is there a cold start injector to look at on these engines, certainly seems like it could be that.
when i get in mine in the mornings i just turn the key and off she goes.....

thanks for your reply redrange ive tried on many occasions to start without throttle and she will not fire at all only time she does is when its only been switched off for about ten mins then sometimes she will catch this cold start injector is it a common problem ? thanks steve t
