Well it does sound like I am but I've had it to two local specialists now, both with textbook. Both are going down the line of let's just try the usual things and hope it fixes. The bloody first one even put black top injectors in my 15p engine. Anyway this is why I'm asking on here because I have no faith in local specialists and taking it to Alive Tuning, Gary is adamant it's electrical although he can't pinpoint it with the short time I was here. I just wanted him to discount it was a remap or MAF problem etc. anyway I'm going to check the electrics around crank sensor etc for contamination/damage. Which I think is logical. Well more logical than the local specialists have been up to now anyway...!

test book will only show you what senors read ,not condition of engine

Yes obviously. That said (although I haven't had a compression test) everyone who's looked at it says the engine is fine. Local Landy Indy says can only test 4 pots anyway for compression. Is this correct...? They suggest sounds like a timing issue. Would out of timing have show up on live data I had checked at Alive Tuning though..?! I'm taking it for timing checking anyway and compression if timing turns out to be fine. The previous keeper did tell me it had a new camshaft fitted 18 months ago.

find somebody with the proper electronic compression test equipment as compression is testable without removing the glowplugs too

SOLVED...!!!!!! OMG the feeling inside of me when this actually worked. So bloody simple really...!! It was the timing that was out. Turned out to be quite a bit out. Less than an hour at Doug Dransfields in Sheffield today had it checked and adjusted. All those symptoms and such a simple fix with no parts. The Disco really flies now thanks to the Stage 2 remap etc fitted. They told me that's one of the first things they check now for such issues as poor starting and running. Next little job just gotta change the noisy fan blower now. ;-)
