I have a 95 LWB 4.2, which is delivering 4 miles to gal., which by even Land Rover standards is low.

Can any body give me subject on the problem..

Have you checked all the basics like regular servicing, not running all the gizmos all the time, good fuel being used?

At around $3.10 per gal you wont get much sympathy over here.

US gallons are smaller than ours, so its probably about 5.5mpg in our terms which is still pretty crap really.
Before we go any further, are you sure you got your mathematics right?
 
Yes, the math is right. We have not had a chance to take the auto apart to inspect the fuel system, but my son told me that he had a strong sent of gas, while driving.
 
Just to translate into international English (originally from England) by gas I assume you mean Petroleum Spirit distilled for road fuel use and not Gas (as in a flammable vapour that is only liquid under extreme pressure and low temperatures).

How are you driving and what grade of fuel do you use - I know over in Septic land you use much lower octane numbers than over here which directly affects fuel consumption/performance. Typically round town you should be getting about 10 to the imperial gallon, and at a steady cruising speed should be low 20's
 
Try putting petrol in, the gas probably evaporates before the engine's had a chance to burn it!
 
All filters and that ok?Some clever bods in the range rover section told me that the lse weighs an extra 300lb!and that might be killing the juice, epsehially with the 4.2 Maybe you should have got a 100"
 
Uk standard are
95 , 97 and 106 (If you can find some)
Esso used to do 98 as standard then suddenly they changed the name to something like optimum or something and it miraculously dropped to 97!

I found about a 10% improvement in fuel consumption and noticeable difference in performance with the higher octane in a modern FSI petrol engine, so it was just about worth the expense.
