I ordered a set from Flebay yesterday. I noticed a smell of burning coming from the vents when heater was on full So this morning i decided to take a look at mine which by the look of em haven't been changed since the vehicle was put together.
They are about 3-4mm thick coated in black fluff and general nesting materials (leaves, twigs and small branches). Removed the filters and nesting materials and now the fire seems to have burned itself out and the air is once again fresher than a fresh thing that just came first in a fresh thing competition. New filters fitted tomorrow.

Be sure to seal the lids back down tightly when you change the filters, or the foot wells will fill with water first sign of heavy rain!

these are nearly always missed on a full service - when i changed mine they were like thick black carpet...britpart ones are ****e they break when you bend them on installation.

YES!
The foam seal around the covers goes hard and/or the covers tend to go out of shape and when in heavy rain or being washed water will leak in through them, run a beed of silicon over the top joint of where cover meets panel from one side to the other then smooth your finger over it to force it into the gap and job done!
you don't even have to break the silicon seal when changing the filters as it acts like a hinge!

Tis true mine too were like baby shagpile. Anyway job done and no need to silicone the top edge as the foam seals were all nice and rubbery, like new.
