My missus was out driving with my daughter earlier and notice a strange bolloxed bearing type noise which she thought might be the turbo (she is always right like women are, lol) then a short while later the car was smoking like Dot Cotton. No sh*t when I got to her, and tried it thier was a hugh smoke screen of grey smoke from the exhaust, people came out of thier houses to see if it was a fire. It wouldn't start at 1st but then it did and was thick smoke. Anyways, got a tow home the found low oil and water, needed 1-2 ltrs of each. It starts every time now but it smokes a grey colour quite bad and theirs a grinding noise instead of the turbo whistle but it does go. Someone had taken off the filter near the maf and stuck the pipe on the steel breather thingy, which I have rectified but its still the same. Is that the cause or has my turbo failed. Please advise. Sick of the cr4ppy car now, nowt but problems. Thanks.

turbo will sound like a dentist drill and car will look like a smoke grenade attached to the exhaust if its gone. loads of white smoke??

both filter and steel breather should vent to atmosphere, and should not be connected together.

good luck

It looks like the turbo has let go. Whilst conecting the turbo vent filter pipe to the ird breather could cause running problems, its should have not caused the turbo to fail. The most common reason is the crank case filter blocking.

Just to add, when I started the car it revved high on its own and it wouldn't turn of by key, had to stall it.

You need to take your wife outside and beat the **** out of her for not checking the oil and water levels regularly.

Then get her to do the same to you.

Ok, im pretty sure from you guys its the turbo thats bolloxed, ill try the crank case breather, worth a shot, but i doubt its that coz I changed it about 8 or 9k ago. How can i determin if its the turbo for sure and can anyone tell me how to change it over ? Does it go between the exhaust manifold and the engine ? Can an intermediate do this ? Thanks guys.
