i was wondering if any1 could help me out. when driving my freelander i can get about 30 mins driving and then when i move out of 1st gear to 2nd the rev power decreases, when i move into 3rd i dont get any revs at all. i put my accelerator pedal down asfar as poss but i dont get any power and my car just rolls. does anyone have any idea wat could be wrong?

Looking at your profile you have a 1.8 petrol.

Could be a few things really but with it happening after 30 mins, this is giving everything a chance to heat up so perhaps a coil pack or crank sensor.

What happens if you try and re-start it - does it do the same until you leave it to cool.

yeah the car has to be left for a while. would the things you suggested effect the accelerator pedal?

Is there any misfire or rough running?

Or is it simply like the throttle is disconnected?

there is no missfire or anything. it just seems that when i put my foot on the accelerator it doesnt rev the engine or anything,u can put the pedal fully down with no reply.

Is it definitely always after 30 min ? I had similar with my V8 Disco. That was when petrol went down to 1/4 tank. It appeared to be the fuel pump. Not enough pressure, so not enough petrol and no revs.

There are a few hotshots out there who can tell you straight away. Just wait for them to reply.

The thing that doesn't add up with this problem though is that if the throttle is opened on a K series but there is insufficent fuel pressure to allow an increase in the injection quantity then you can't escape the fact that the butterfly valve has opened, so the mixture is now very weak, so the engine should start flaming out. I think I'm right in saying that the K series is a cable throttle, unlike the diesels that are fly by wire. Are you sure the throttle is actually operating? as in, is this a mechnical linkage issue?
