i got a new starter motor fitted 4 months ago.
now the same fault seems to be creeping back in, except this time the key turns freely in the ignition barrel and wont even bring electrics on.
if however i open the bonnet and giggle the loom of wires( that are located 6 inches closer to the windscreen than the battery) then the electrics do come on but i still get that clunking sound when i do the final turn that signals the starter motor hasnt connected.
any ideas troops?

have you checked the connectors that attach the ignition barrel to the loom, maybe by wiggling the loom in the engine bay you are moving the connectors by the switch?

Easy enough to take the column covers off to look.

hope this helps and on the right track

HaHa, silly me,
a mechanic turned up today and took about 4 seconds to " diagnose" that my battery terminal connection had come a bit lose.

DOH!!!:p
