So I went camping on teewah beach, australia with my newish diaco2 and my girlfriend.. On our 3rd day my girlfriend looked a bit grumpy so I said do you want to drive on the beach??.. So she did.. The tied started to come in a bit so we went through a puddle or two, nothing major.. And up ahead looked like a bit deeper puddle.. Nothing that the landy can't handle I thought.. So I said to my girlfriend it will be ok just put you foot down a bit (I was worried about getting stuck).. so we hit the puddle and it was alot deeper then I thought.. I yelled keep your foot down n keep the revs up!!.. She replied Craig it has conked out!!.. So my baby was sitting in a pool of water up to her head lights.. Managed to get pulled out.. The horn was going off nonstop.. So I disconnected the battery..

Got her towed back to my tent.. Tried starting her up and she wouldn't start.. The imobaliser was stuck on.. Sat her in the sun with the bonnet up for a few hours hoping that she would dry out.. Disconnected the battery for about half hour too.. My life was pretty much over at this point so I just thought #### it I might as well try starting her again.. And bang she came alive.. The horn was going off constantly so i just took the fuse out.. Gave her a
few revs to clear all the water from the exhaust.. Went for a quick drive up and down the beach to make sure she drove ok..

The only promblems she has are as follows:

Warning lights:
Handbrake, traction control, hill descent, abs, srs
And the manual mode and sport mode symbols flash..

Doors won't lock with central locking but will unlock
(it just beeps as if a door is open)..

This all happened about 4 days ago.. It's been just under 40 degrees her so if it was going to dry out and fix it self surely it would have done it by now right??..

Any advice will be greatfully appreciated..

Cheers in advance..

Craig..

get diagnostics on it.

oh & introduce yoself ;)

wot muppet drives a disco thru seawater? of unknown depth?

I imagine you're going to need to get the faults cleared and then see what resurfaces.

Not sure about the Disco though :p

WELCOME Craig! Sorry it couldn't be under better circumstances..

As BB says get a diagnostic computer - nanocom or hawkeye or whatever the Aussie equivalent is plugged in and see what the faults are. Also, and I'm thinking it's a bit late now, but get some fresh water jetted everywhere to rinse out the salt (disconnect battery beforhand...again ;) ).

On the mechanical side, get the oils checked - axles, gearbox, transfer box - to see if they've had water ingress and emulsified.

See if the rear chassis has dropped off with going rusty in saltwater :( :p

Good luck!

Yes I know I'm muppet.. I'm new to 4wding as you can probably tell.. But it's true what they say "you learn from your mistakes"..

Yeah I got her completely washed with fresh water as soon as I got off of the beach, I'm not a complete idiot.. Ok maybe I am..

I will get her plugged in ASAP.. And keep you boys informed..

Cheers..

Ohh, boy are you in for some flak on here over this :D :violent:

No worries - hey, if you'd got a Gaylander, then God help you :p

(As you might be aware, LZ has more than enough banter to go around)

Hi Craig and welcome to Landyzone and 2014 !

Sounds like you have water in one of the following places:

1. In the BCU and/or it's contacts;

2. In the engine bay fusebox;

3. In the cabin fuse box.

You'll need to identify where the water is and dry it out.

Cheers Dave.. I'll check them out in the morning..

insist on the BCU and IDM(part of the interior fusebox)... take out the BCU and the interior fusebox, use a hair dryer on them, then electric contact spray, plug them back, put ignition on pos II and leave it so 5 minutes to re-establish full comunication between the IDM and BCU

... the best would be to open both units and soak them well with this NanoProtech Electronic Protective Coating - YouTube , you find it on ebay

did you miss this post? http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/2876094-post10.html , being the last on the first page is possible

No I didn't pal, just got in from doing just that, but still no luck
unfortunally.. :( wasn't wet inside at all but still gave them a clean with that electric spray stuff.. (that stuff is awesome) And all the plugs..
As soon as I put the key into position 2 those bastard lights came on.. But still left it like that for 5 mins before starting..

Is there any other electrical parts that it could be??..

yes...albeit those warning lights are triggered by the ABS ECU which is near the BCU behind the glovebox...the ECM could affect the M & S lights... and the central locking is managed by the BCU and IDM ...the only common point for all the symptoms you've described is the BCU though... try to remove it open it and spray it within

There was 2 boxes behind the glove box.. I was unsure which was which so opened them both up and sprayed them both.. I did get the ECM out and then sat it in the sun to dry.. But I will try opening that up tomorrow and spraying it..
