Yep I will do that this week, got 2 go buy a viscous spanner 1st. After taking fan and belt off do I have 2 replace fan before starting?

Just whip the belt off, no need to refit the fan pulley.

All the same, when checked, you could refit the fan before the belt to eliminate the viscous part of the fan unit

I know it sounds like teaching granny to suck eggs, but it can be a good idea to draw a small diagram of the belt routing, makes refitting easier

Also a possibility that the alternator bearing is noisy, there's a hydraulic pump on the front of it.

Hope you get sorted

Thanks 4 the advice, im hoping its just the tensioner but jave noticed a bit of oil dripping from the bottom of alternator 2 now

Think I have finally found the problem, had belts off and found the tensioner next 2 the alternator is really hard 2 turn. New 1 on order and hopefully will be quiet again. Well quiet as can b for a land rover ;)
