I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction!

My V8 disco suddenly started to turn over as soon as the gear gets moved to neutral without turning the key! At the same time, the windows have stopped working, as well as the electric seats so can't go back or forward!

I am just about to have a baby and the car was for sale when this nightmare started! A landrover specialist wants £80 an hour and reckons it could take hours or weeks to find the problem, so needless to say I can't afford that.

There is a water leak somewhere on the passenger side as the footwell is very wet but as far as I know this was happening before the problem started, someone suggested it could be linked?

The vehicle isn't insure as it is for sale, any idea if there are such people as electrics mechanics who travel to the vehicle?

Sorry so many questions, I am desperate to get this solved so the vehicle can be sold.

Many thanks

Oh dear sorry to read this, a common problem if the car has air conditioning, the condensation pipe sometimes gets kicked and instead of letting the water out it pours inside, it can be found on the n/s passenger side under just under the dash, simply push it back through its hole, your electrical problem sounds to me like a short, now it could have been caused by the same problem with the water, for some obscure reason some wires are routed along the floor under the carpets, I would hazard a guess and say you have a bare wire under there and coupled with the water you get a short, this would be my first port of call due to the water problem and then the electrical problem, the two could be linked, I could also be completely wrong but I do have some experience.

For the starter problem I'd look for a stuck relay.

When asking for help it would be useful if you say where you are, there might be someone local that can take a look :)

Not quite right. The drain pipes (actually just little rubber valves) get blocked, condensate then fills the bottom of the a/c unit and spills out.

However, I would suggest that this problem is either water getting into the under-dash fuseboard (which also has some tricky electrics in it) - a good second hand one will fix it and is easily fitted - or, worse into the BCU which is behind the glove box (you can lower that down by pushing the little rollers that control it through the slots - hard to describe).

A good independent LR specialist should know all about these common problems.

What vehicle?

We had a p38 v8 that had water in the underbonnet fusebox that was causing it to turn over, needed a new fusebox due to corrosion on the printed circuit boards.

hi all,

wow thank you all for suggestions.

I'm in Hertfordshire between Luton airport and Hitchin if anyone knows an electrical guru who can rescue me!

the disco is a 1999 V8.

I shall try and pass on the suggestions to a 'normal' mechanic to see if the above suggestions might hold the answer. Last garage I rang wanted £250 just to look at it and had never heard of such problem :-(

Maybe try a guy called Dale at Dfs (01582 840041). He is based in Markyate, absolute wizz with Land Rovers. Not sure if he will come out to you but defo worth a call.
Good luck.
