What is a RAVE? sorry for my stupidity. It is a 2001.
It`s like a computer version of Haynes but with a lot more in depth information for your model. It will have loads of technical know hows & wiring diagrams/schematics. You should be able to find a copy on here if you look via search function.

Dan.

Thanks Dan. Just seen your reply.

Autobox error could be low battery.

What does a PROPER diagnostic unit say?

TESTBOOK, Hawkeye, Nanocomm or similar

download the doc from this link https://discoii.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/discovery-ii-electrical-library.pdf, you need an acrobat reader installed ... open Connector views and see C0504, remove the glovebox, disconnect the battery, unplug C0504 and make continuity test with multimeter between C0504 pin 5 and OBD port pin 7 (purple wire all the way) ... we'll speak after you have the result

Just done the continuity test and i have zilch across the purple wire. Does that mean i have a break in that wire? Update. I was incorrect partially, the chap couldnt read the faults but he had the option to clear them. Gearbox fault now gone since then. I have developed a misfire which i have ordered a new injector loom for.

Just seen this,
if no continuity on that path it's an interruption between the SLABS ECU and diagnostic port(provided you measured the right one) so as i presumed there might not be any issue with the ECU... run a new wire between those two points
...the chap couldnt read the faults but he had the option to clear them.
so to clarify cos i'm a bit confused:
the chap was able to clear which codes if he wasnt able to read them in the first place?? ... and in which ECU was that cos i dount it's about the SLABS with interrupted data link

So i tested the 2 pins you suggested. Purple wire all the way.

He cleared the gearbox fault. Couldnt clear the abs fault

Then the link to the EAT ECU is good and the link to the SLABS is not that's what we know untill now cos as you can see in the diagram i posted each ECU has it's own circuit up to header C0286

I have run a cable across will that work?

Good advice. Any ideas of any one in the hampshire area with the kit?
Whereabouts in Hampshire are you? I am in Ferndown East Dorset, just over the border, with a Scantool which helped me sort my three amigos out, bought on advice from a member on here.
Also, when your box locked into third that was because it had been put into "limphome" mode. (Just thought I'd mention it.) But you can disregard all this if you have since sorted it all out.

Also if your blokey couldn't clear the ABS fault, this may mean you still have the ABS fault, i.e. maybe a dodgy sensor, which my Scantool should be able to tell you. This tool definitely can clear these faults. You ARE aware that you need to drive the vehicle before the light goes off?

Andover, bit of a hack. Does your vehicle run? If so we could meet halfway, if all you want is a look at the diagnostics on the Scantool. What sort of hours do you work? I assume "14" is a joke!
