Hi All

Please help ! We are looking at buying a 2003 1.8 petrol Freelander with 17K on the clock. From reading on the net and hearing from other people there have been some issue's with the Freelander and head gasket. I have spoken to the dealer today and he has said that yep there where problems with them and that the one we are looking at has had all the factory recall repairs done on it.

My question is would this now mean that it is a reliable car ? and when he said all the factory recalls have there been others apart from the head gasket if so what are they ?

Basically we took the car for a test drive (had it the whole day) and it is much better on fuel than our car (Grand voyager 3.3 auto petrol) but the only thing that is putting us off is the bad reports about factory recalls and how much the 1.8 drinks fuel. So I am just after some comments from people in the know (hopefully you guys )

Thanks for any advice

Personally!
Go for the TD4,

If the dealers That confident that the particular car your after WONT chuck the HG See if he will thow in some sort of Aftermarket Warranty,,See how confident he is then?????

The main Landrover dealer does not have any TD4's and if they did they would be a little out of our price range at the moment we have also looked round other dealers and they don't have any freelanders at all ! so it's the 1.8 or nothing

if a td4 is out of ya price range then yu wont afford a 1.8 unless yu get a very good warranty with it -Frelanders can be very expensive if yu arent lucky.

Go fer nothin or the td4 . . . .

It's a August 2003 on for around £10,000 it looks like a basic 1.8 to me. Apart from the seats which are half leather and half a sueude like fabric. has done just over 17,000 miles. It has all service history which has been done by the main dealer.

Dont let Us put you Off Jersey,
I'm sure you going about it the right way, Ask BEFORE you buy, (Eh floppy)
If you feel like your doing the right thing, then go for it, Dont forget, your going to be a lot better off MPG wise and probly insurance, So if you weigh that up and your happy, Its your choice;)

i did, i did, i did - i looked at the forums and thought - no way to a 1.8 - i heard stories of 3 new engines in a year!!, dont like diesels - and the V6 was not supposed to suffer hg problems! - so that woz my choice :(

Jersey - at the end of the day - its your choice - find out as much as you can - get as big a warranty that you can (check the small print) - get the vehicle RAC checked - and make your decision - its your money remember.
