Hi folks, I have a 1999 freelander but am having major problems.... I was travelling down the motorway when I felt , what I can describe, a thud coming from underneath my car. After that I lost all drive but still have power. I can press the clutch down and put it in gear but it doesn't do anything or even stall. The guy from the AA says that my front drive shaft isn't spinning and since then I've been told that either my clutch has collapsed or my gearbox has gone or the transfer box needs replacing. I would be grateful if anybody could come up with an answer for me as I seem to be getting no where fast with this and need my lanny back on the road asap. Many thanks guys and gals. Jason

Might be the clutch, I would have thought if your transfer box (IRD) had failed you would still get drive to the front wheels, unless the whole lot has siezed up? When you press in the clutch pedal does the lever move on the gearbox?

jack front wheels up one at a time with car in gear if it turns freely cv /broken on that side,,is rear prop connected, if you run through gears without clutch pressed and its feels like engine off then probably clutch fault ,if you can feel gears crunching or jamming, fault after gearbox or out put from gearbox

Thanks alot guys really appreciate your help... I gonna go with your advice and go with the clutch problem. Once again many thanks
