Hi all
Should there be any play in the joint that bolts from the prop to the diff (the one with 4 bolts)?
I have the usual up down motion but have a few mm side to side play .
And also would that play account for a clicking im hearing from near the rear that increases /decreases with speed .
Thanks

Try and locate exactly where the play is. It's either that universal worn out or the diff bearing? Another thought, it could also be the diff mount/s.

I took the prop off when the clicking started .prop off noise gone so inspected it .it's definitely the joint moving a bit side to side .would that be the cause and is that joint now knackered

Would that account for the clicking im hearing

Yes that will make a clicking sound. UJs are easy to replace. They are held in place by 4 circlips.
Get those out and the caps will slide out.
The cross shaped UJ should wiggle out easily. The caps contain the small roller bearings and will likely as not fall out.
Fitting the new one is the reverse. Those new roller bearings should stay in place with the grease in their caps.

I had a knackered UJ prop to diff and had no clicks but lots of vibrations - especially on decelleration. They can be a bit of a pig to knock out - and indeed the circlips were difficult to get off on mine - but it is not a complex job. It solved my problems.
Good luck!

thanks.i hope this solves it. i know my diff mounts are knackered too so they're getting replaced aswell.Gareth, what else owuld cause that clicking so?
