So got myself a 2004 Sport, lovely truck. But I’ll confess, I’ve never seen the black plastic door panels before and can’t find anything on the interwebs. Any Hippo experts know anything about them?

They were certainly a factory option.

Usually see them on early models though, can't say I've noticed them on a facelift.

I don't believe they were a facelift option.
I can understand how they protect the bottom of the vehicle from paint damage, but I think they completely ruin the look of the vehicle, making it look like a cheap 90s Korean 4x4.

I quite like them but they probably suit the pre face lift more as they 'integrate' with the black/mushy grey bumpers.

See op photos. He is showing the lower door 1/3 covered in panel.

Not sure they are needed, just an interest question?

I have also seen ribbed side panels that do look, in my view, truly awful!

I’m just curious about them as I’ve never seen them on any other FL1.

Looks a bit like one of the ideas they played around with during the prototyping stage.

Taken from my favourite Freelander book. "You and Your Land Rover Freelander". :)

The Callaway supercharged V6 photos and description later in the book always draw me in.
