Hi,

I have just been looking for the location of the cam sensor and saw a picture of a td4 with the top cover off.

Under there is another plastic cover over the injectors.

Do 2001 freebies not have the second cover, or has mine been missing for the past 7 years?

Thanks

David

My TD4 has one cover over the injectors (and cam position sensor) and one over the air filter. They overlap each other by a centimetre or so.

There was at some point long ago, what was called an 'acoustic cover'.

I'm not sure when LR decided to delete it.

I don't think it really was very effective in the first place.

The acoustic cover is the one that i have, its got 2 inchs of foam on the back of it.

Under there, it look like there should be another cover over the injector, that one i do have, and have never had.

I might be wrong - but I get the impression that the engines were fitted with only one cover - either the bigger acoustic cover, or the smaller one.

I don't think they would have fitted both.

Perhaps someone knows better and can give us the definitive answer.

I certainly couldn't run without the small cover that my engine has, as oil would come out the left hand bolt hole of the 3 that hold the cover on.

I wouldn't be too concerned if I was you - your engine is possibly slightly quieter than mine, but I doubt it.

Caio,

Singvogel.

hi some had the the larger cover and some had the smaller cover fitted but none of the freelanders had both fitted mines a 2002 and as the larger cover

Ahh that clears that up, its not missing it never had one.

Singvogel - I got 212k miles on it. Yours is probably a lot quieter. Lol

the covers use the same holes to be fitted to the engine, i have the bigger one which i took off and replaced with the smaller injector cover, looks better, although the smaller one has an extra hole for a bolt in the middle but nowhere on the engine for it to bolt too, must be a cover for a earlier or later model than mine

FWIW Mine has the two covers, one over the fuel injectors (landrover part held down with crappy 10mm bolts) the other is the air filter cover (BMW part) held in with captive allen keys...

got rid of mine it only keeps in heat and adds weight btw the heat im in aus so it gets a little warm through the day in summer just finishes a 9 days of +30 degs

Is it possible for the larger acoustic cover to fit over the smaller plastic one?

No - they use the same bolt holes.

The big one isn't very effective in noise suppression so little benefit would be obtained in fitting it even if it was possible.
