got me new plasma rope on and its well good, slight problem its actually about 5 metres longer than me wire rope and it only just fits on the drum but it rubs on the bottom of the plate.anyone know how i can cut off about 5m and refix the hook cant tell how its done at the mo as theres a protective sleave around it.

has anyone fitted a wireless remote to there winch?
mines a warn winch and i think the solenoids are located in the top section of the winch?

simple cut it with a knife then knot it to the hook:p

i did think about that..if i knot it and then connect the rope to another car or summit and winch in will they give a tight enough knot do you think?

the correct way is to cut and splice.

Beware of cheep imitation remotes cos they are ilegal and crap. A proper one is about £160-£250.

DO NOT tie a knot in the rope. a knot (depending on which one you tie) can reduce a ropes strength by upto 60%. the hook will be fitted to an eye which will have been spliced into the rope. you can buy a splicing tool for plasma ropes from any one selling the ropes. or take it to a sailmakers, ships chandlers and get them to splice it for you.

aye yer right red if you are near me or want to post it i'll splice it fr you no problem

anyway this ent a good idea i was joking get it done properly or things good go badly wrong

FFS are yu going for the italian bravery award??? :D cos they is the only other fookers that back pedal as fast as yu!!!!! :D :D :p

mmm what to do???
i take it the rope will flatten slightly over time as the 1st few coils on the drum are flatter than the rest of the rope..if it flattens and i can get it tighter on the drum it may fit but it is very tight, dont want to cut it and not be able to put it together as it should be.i now do some marshalling at pay and play site and will no doubt be using the winch alot so dont want to lessen the strength of it..thanks for the offer of splicing it but scotlands a bit far away for me,and just wont have the time to take off and post but many thanks for the offer.

just had another thought what if i was to put some spacers underneath the winch base to raise it up a tad that might give me the clearance i need.
or would that efect the strength of the winch?

I was given a good tip,If you've cut the plasma rope & trying to thread it thru the drum, heatshrink it first;)
