The Continental CrossContact RX 255/65 R19 is probably the worst tyre I have ever used! It is an absolute pile of ****e! It has zero sideways grip on even the mildest of muddy inclines and goes all over the place on muddy tracks... and I don't mean properly muddy, just a moist top surface.

As for all-season my arse. Went out in 1°C with sleety conditions. Very very light dusting of wet snow (I mean 1-2mm) and again shocking grip. The car just didn´t feel planted.

It is an absolute disgrace that these even come fitted to a Defender... does nobody ever take new Land Rovers off-road? Are they all just for school runs and end up as pavement princesses? They are coming off on Wednesday and I´m putting on proper dedicated winter tyres. When spring comes round I´m putting the steelies with ATs back on.

Consensus on LZ was that it was going to be an overpriced SUV.

But you went out and bought one anyway.

Yes, the consensus on LZ wasn´t great but ah well. I don´t think it is overpriced, there are far worse and much less inspiring cars out there for similar or more money. It replaced by Discovery 4, which I loved, but couldn´t live with the unceratinty as to when or if the crank would break.

Most that I see over here are just used for school runs and shopping, but I have seen a few recently towing plant trailers etc.
I imagine they are pretty good for towing, Discos always were, and as you suggest, they are a kind of development of Disco technology.

Thanks, I may do a little write up later to let others know how I get on. I went with the lowest spec trim and then added stuff that I actually wanted such as the off-road pack. What I like about it the most is that it has coil springs (110 and not utility spec so I have 5 seats). That couldn´t be specced until spring this year, not sure if it is an option in the UK.

The coils are a refreshing bit of sanity.
 
It will be interesting to see how you get on with it, we have a disco 4 coming up for change, and we’re not keen on the disco 5

This is a new ‘90’ on me island. The owner said he specced the ‘off road package’ and has slightly more off road biased tyres. Can’t remember what make the are though

Somewhere in my distant memory didn't the army, experiment tyres that can survive ieds not having sidewalls our tubes. According to gadget show recently Goodyear tires are producing the same 2030 release date.

Not saying you are wrong, but how does a tyre not have sidewalls?
Wouldn't it just be a rubber band around the wheel?
 
I have found out the new defender rims fit onto certain discos.
Change the rims(slightly smaller) & get some proper tyres.

I believe there is a mesh that flexible with a tread as normal outside. The sidewalls not needed because the gap filled. Quite sure the army tried a similar version may have been the prototype.
