expected to see pork scratchings all over the road but luckily seems it was just a very impressive backfire pmsl:eek::D:D
anyway i shall start at the beginning, Pig has been sat with a dead battery for about 3 weeks but got her jump started on weds at last:rolleyes: put £20 of fuel in and the problems began:doh: starts ok but cuts out while i'm driving:confused: if i turn key quickly she kicks back in but keeps on doing it. it was after about a mile of this keep cutting out that she did the almighty backfire:eek: now she sounds like a fecking tank so i think she may have blew the exhaust:doh:
but do you think the cutting out is down to the carb, it's a weber and i reckon is long overdue a bit of tlc (rather like the rest of pig lol), she sits at idle fine, i left her running for half hour down the farm with no problems:confused:
 
Possibly an intermittent connection in the ignition circuit. It would explain the backfire. Try running a wire from the battery to a switch in the cab (so you can switch it off) and then back to the coil +ve terminal and see if it'll run.

hmmm thats getting technical :eek: god dammit but i may just have to find a man to have a look:rolleyes:
 
Spark plugs could've gone duff, HT leads may be duff, dizzy cap & rotor arm also. Backfire is unburnt fuel getting into exhaust so check ignition system.
 
check the vacuum advance pipe between the distributor and carb.
its a 3mm ish pipe that runs between the carb (you know where that is?), round the back of the engine to the round thing on the bit with the 5 big wires on it that connect to the plugs. (distributor)
its there to advance the spark when the accelerator is pressed, so wont be affected if its just idling.

checking that its connected securely at both ends, and not fallen out / off.
simlpest to check first, if its ok then onto the points inside the dizzy.
but i'll leave that one till later.

but the list is now getting very technical and i don't do technical lol, i do hit it with hammer:eek::D

Have you tried that yet?

Make sure you hit the right bit though... :p
