If I hadn't seen my L322 (V8 on Gas), I would still have my Diesel P38 hands down....

But saying that, if the bastids hadn't nicked and trashed my 3.9 V8 on Gas Classic - I'd still have that....

And if the Girlfriend hadn't of needed a new car as her 1986 Mini Piccadily was giving up the ghost, I wouldn't of had part ex'd my 1997 Silver 4.6 HSE P38.....

And if the company I worked for hadn't stiffed me on the travel costs (they said they'ed cover all receipts if I transferred over for the 2.5 year design contract but then after 6 months said they wouldn't do it anymore due to the cost) I'd still have my 1995 Green 4.6 HSE P38 that I had to sell to cover the fuel bill driving into kent everyday!!

And then again if my 1988 Classic hadn't succomb to rust and if I had the money to fix - I'd still have that.....

My moral is - as long as it's a Range Rover, and you're happy with it, and you can afford/justify the running costs - who cares if it burns oil, petrol or gas....

Just love the damn thing is all I ask....

my view has nothing to do with cost longivety Easiness of fixing and most of all Reliability

Not all Jap stuff is as reliable as you may think. Lad went down to Stoke the other day to pick up a 2008 Nissan Navara. Beautiful motor according to him. But MOT had run out, so he said get it tested and you can have my 8 grand. Engine blew up on way to test station. Bloody lucky lad to get away with that one.

Look at the forums, bloody diabolical motor, even has non starting problems just like the P38:eek:
 
Likewise Wammers but not in the same ball park,i have a mint 60k miles 1991 mx5 1.6i,hardly a Porsche or a V8 but for fun seat of the pants driving,it is hard to beat.Had it 10 years(garaged) and does less than 500 miles a year,and will still have it in another ten years.And of course the beauty is it's Japanese,so is totally reliable!!!

I have a mint 1986 MR2 Mk1b that I've owned from new. Great fun, will out run a lot of more powerful cars on the twisties:D
Totally reliable, headlining still in place and remarkably rust free:D:D
 
Lack of maintenance no doubt.As with all p38 or anything else maintenance is the key,without it you are playing russian roulette,it will go tits up,you just don't know when. :)

It ain't maintenance, they just go pop as do the turbo's on the Xtrail. They are not Japanese anymore either, owned by Renault

Nope, engine failure is very common with Nissan Navaras - well maintained ones too.
 
At work we use Disco 1 300tdi's. My experience is: Great off road esp on hills, starts easily, runs all day, they dont overheat, nice & simple but on the road only 111bhp, a pain to drive esp manual. 3.9V8 185 bhp, smooth, quiet never had problems with three of them but thirsty. But now we have the TDV8 - no contest ( probably be about 10 yrs before I can afford one tho )
 
I wish I'd got a petrol P38! :) Converted to gas at 74p per litre. Cheaper to run than my diesel on bio! I'm going to have to start making it myself - which when I do, I'll be glad I got a diesel....
