There is always arguments about this subject petrol= power diesel = longer life reliability do you think we should have a buyers guide sticky?? on the pros and cons of owning a petrol oops I did it again I mean either from cost to servicing to worn engines cams the list goes on poor petrol heads

Good thing about a petrol is it goes up in flames much faster than a diesel but the diesel will burn for longer

Diesel everytime for me ,especially on a p38 as there is enough electrickery to go wrong on the car itself without the worry of coil packs,ht leads, loss of sync, etc.
:behindsofa:

It is common knowledge that a diesel engine is far more reliable and lasts a great deal longer, IF MAINTAINED PROPERLY than a similarly maintained petrol engine will. Buying a vehicle purely for the exhaust note is a little boy racerish.

Spark plugs your go through three sets compared to glow plugs, and do you remember spark plugs years ago would last about 20k now isn't it 60k

I have a Porsche 928 that gives me all the V8 sound i will ever need. Proper engine no liners to slip. :D:D:D

Likewise Wammers but not in the same ball park,i have a mint 60k miles 1991 mx5 1.6i,hardly a Porsche or a V8 but for fun seat of the pants driving,it is hard to beat.Had it 10 years(garaged) and does less than 500 miles a year, and will still have it in another ten years. And of course the beauty is it's Japanese,so is totally reliable!!!

;)

Not all Jap stuff is as reliable as you may think. Lad went down to Stoke the other day to pick up a 2008 Nissan Navara. Beautiful motor according to him. But MOT had run out, so he said get it tested and you can have my 8 grand. Engine blew up on way to test station. Bloody lucky lad to get away with that one.

that was lucky timing ,ive known a good few go through the courts (not allways successfully )with fresh bought motors

Lack of maintenance no doubt. As with all p38 or anything else maintenance is the key, without it you are playing russian roulette,it will go tits up,you just don't know when. :)

Yeah James bloody lucky lad. He has just sold one of his 18 tonners and bought a 7.5 ton for easier access to estates for his removals firm. Got a few bob in his pocket and it's burning a bloody hole in it. I've told him to stay away from the Navara but he did not listen. Let's hope he learned something from that. :):)

common for nissan navara engine to go pop at low mileage.

Sorry of topic !

Very poor towing vehicle too!
Well the 2008 long way down auto,s are!
Our friends had one and whilst towing a horse trailer(Ifor 511) with two average size horses in it, up a hill in Homefirth.
Clutch decided to try and melt and the weight of the trailer was dragging the auto box backwards

Piece of ****!
Had to rescue her in the Range rover!
Now she has bought a Landrover disco 4 ( great motor)
