I'm an electrician by trade if you hadnt guessed. saying that DC auto electrics are a bit wierd and sometimes seem to defy the normal 'rules'

Quick electrical joke:

Why was sol annoyed?

Cos he couldny take meg ohm

most leccy faults on vehicles are down to bad earth or bad connection. unless you obvisouly have a buggered component like starter or wiper moter

i think it's an electrical joke that i'm not allowed to do any re-wiring in me own ferkin house any more, wivout gettin it inspected!
ffs, i've bin doin it fer years, in various houses and aint killed no one, or caused any fires yet. i do a better job than some i've seen by so-called professional / qualified sparks!

from a testing point of view strange readings due to back feeds through lamp filaments when you do have a bad earth and inadvertent electronic operations can be a bit daunting. Mind you not much electronic wizardry on a series I guess.

just wait till you tell you that you can't work on yer own car..which is more of a danger to joe public that you stickin a new socket in. and ad dint mean you personally ah mean you as in anyone

TELL ME ABOUT IT!!!

I have been a spark since 1980 and am well qualified and have had lots of experience in domestic, commercial and industrial sites. I rewired my kitchen last year and had to do it with the new brown/blue T&E cable cos you cant get the red/black anymore. The upshot is that if/when I sell the house I have to get an inspection done by someone who has done a 6 week course (who could even be a plumber as if they didnt earn enough money)
Dont start me on that one grrrrrrrr

check all yer connections are clean and dry and tight including where the starter is bolted in. if as yer sparky says yer drawing to much **** then you have a high resistance somewhere, most likely a bad earth.
if you have a multi meter to hand its easy enough to check

Easy if you know how to use a multimeter, step by step guide please and I'll have a go.
Can't sort the starter till Monday though

Worst thing you can do with a multimeter is try and measure voltage when it is set on amps. You basically short out the battery (or mains - depending on what you are doing) and there will be a big bang and possibly injuries. Most meters have fuses in them or possibly in the leads. The same effect can be achieved with it set on ohms. So check the settings carefully before you test anything.

ahhhh that explains it sweets

if yer in saltash, yer aint proper cornish - yer just a plymouth chav who's crossed the water...;)
i aint no plymouth chav im just a chav

much as i hate to disagree with a qualifried lectricin, ave to say yer actually wrong there. but thou i don't know if it is the worst thing you can do wiff a multimeter, sticking one in yer ear then hitting it wiff a big hammer is slighty worst then having it on the wrong settin!
ave got a fluke and you can't set that wrong cos it automatic!

OK then the worst thing 'in normal use'. I have seen first hand what happens when someone uses a multimeter wrongly and it resulted in someone going to hospital for a long time so take note! and think arc flash!

biug bang big white flash of light and a loud bang all resultin in tempary deafness and blindness and flash burns on yer hands that what happened to him ive also seen it happen the bang was heard almost a mile away but it wasnt a mulit meter some 1 put a single phase breaker across 2 phases destroyed the breaker melted the main swtich in board took out the mccb and poped the 800a hrc

ah know some soft **** in france that wired his fridge across two phases of a three phases installation. the fridge survived but the circular saw that he tried to use dint. i had... erm!... he had to take the saw back to the shop and say "this dunt work !! gees anuffer"

I worked for the electricity board doing overhead service renewals. Some wise guy sparky working with me connected 2 phases to a house instead of a phase and neutral and didnt even check polarity etc. He just whacked the fuse in and put 415V across the whole house! He blew up just about every appliance even the element in the immersion!
